Rebate woes!

Have you received your tax rebates yet?

From the grapevine: if you are a local, chances are, you've already received your 2004 and 2005 rebates.

Those who are not from here, including those from the US mainland and nonresident workers, are still waiting for their 2004 rebates. Talk about equal treatment.

The government earlier said there will be no 2005 rebates yet to be given out except for those needing off-island medical referral yet we know of many residents who are now just waiting for their 2006 tax forms to be filed to get their money.

  1. i was told that you can talk to an insider and he will help you get your rebate ASAP... the thing is, he will have to get a certain percentage from your hard-earned money.

  4. Alexis Fallon a tax attorney has filed a class action lawsuit. I do not know who is represented, I think all the people of the commonwealth who have not received their tax rebates. Call her shes in the newest phone book available at the post office. I do know however, that through the freedom of information act you can request information from any government agency, including I believe a lists of who received their tax rebates. By using names alone it could be determined if there is discrimination. The last administration definately used a non random methods of giving out tax rebates. Those who appealed to the Lt. Govenor often got their rebates. I don't know about this administration.

  5. There are 29 members of the class action, represented by Atty. Alexis Fallon. They sued the government for non-payment of rebates.

As to the issue of discrimination (residents or locals are given their rebates first before any other members of this community), it seems that those who filed the lawsuit (because they havent received their rebates for past years) are not from the CNMI but are either guest workers or from the US mainland. Their last names: Armstrong, Hui, Xiu, Mei, Lieberman, and John Does 1-24.
