Diego to Go!

It's former Lt. Gov. now Congressman Diego Benavente's turn to spin local politics as he has announced his intention to run for CNMI Governor next 2009. The most interesting of this move is that it will be a three-way competition among former Gov. Babauta, 2005 Gubernatorial Election runner-up Hofschneider.

A local primary is now expected within the local Republican Party.

I heard that Benavente if selected would have a chance for the much-coveted seat up at Capital Hill. However, Hofschneider as they say is the man to beat. They also say, the former governor will have to get back in the limelight for a chance of a close fight.

Well, what do you think?

  1. Diego is a premature candidate with not the best chances in the GOP. But compared to Fitial, I would take Diego any day!

  2. diego will win the primary...juan is running cause hes out of money

the dems will run multiple candidates but may not have a primary like in the past...meaning they will lose for those slow in math

the new gov must be tough, unlike fitial, and must have the nerve to lay off thousands of locals from nmi jobs

  3. Is it campaign season already? Can't we at least wait until Kilili is sworn in before starting up again? Please?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Diego is unqualified for that job.

    ReplyDelete
  5. These politicians are just that... politicians. Can't the people enjoy and respect the holidays and leave politics until say, after the holidays.

As for Diego, he had his chance to serve the people when he as a Lt. but both he and Babauta failed miserably. What makes us think he can do better now! The CNMI needs CHANGE!!!

  7. I think we're fucked for another 12 years! Wait a minute.... you are all fucked. I'm out of here in less than 7 days! Adios amoebas!

  8. "the new gov must be tough, unlike fitial, and must have the nerve to lay off thousands of locals from nmi jobs"

    Haaaa haaaa haaaaa, good one.

I've long argued for rather than mass gov't layoffs, how about realignment; transferring hundreds of workers w/ duplicate jobs into money-generating, enforcement jobs?

Then again, I'm still waxing my skis waiting for snow on Tapochau.

  9. "I've long argued for rather than mass gov't layoffs, how about realignment; transferring hundreds of workers w/ duplicate jobs into money-generating, enforcement jobs?"

Randy - And that would have been a great plan had we ever planned, but that is all behind us now, and most do not realize or haven't accepted the reality of the textile revenues and its impact to 2009.

This economic problem is compounded by contract workers wanting 5 year residency cards whether or not there is work here. We can't have unemployed guest workers.

Diego doesn't have what it takes unless he has the guts to tell thousands of local CNMI workers "vote for me cause I will lay you off". If he does that, I would vote for someone of such integrity.

  10. Diego? No chance. You will not win.

  12. Diego's a joke! I mean, the guy brags about his 18 years of experience in public service

    ReplyDelete
  13. Diego's a joke! I mean, the guy brags about his 18 years of experience in public service... This could only mean that he's equally to be blame for the problems today that were caused yesterday... four years ago, eight years ago, a decade ago, 18 years ago, and so forth. Time to retire this fool!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Who in their right mind would vote for Diego? He was in charge of the fish co-op that went broke in a month, and now you want to trust him with running the entire CNMI?

Are our people really that stupid?

We need a candidate with brains and integrity.
In other words, we need a new face.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Let's not give Diego another four years of smoking cigars and standing tall in clubs and bars. Instead, let's put those cigars where they rightfully belong... up his ass. The arrogance of this guy!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Diego is a vindictive person. He's only running to get back at people. He's not running for the people but for his own selfish reasons. A vote for Diego is a vote for his ego! Vote NO to Diego!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Diego? Are you joking?

Who is his running mate? Dora the Explorer?

Sorry Diego, but you are better off fishing. Don't waste yoiur time.

    ReplyDelete
  18. We need someone who is not a Chamorro to win. Fuck, even Chamorros agree.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Who? John Davis? Chamorros vote for family and they will not vote in an outsider no matter what.

    It will never change.

Diego has a good chance of winning. He has the Teno family backing him.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The Teno family is backing him...I'd trust Greg Cruz more.

If Diego takes command the NMI will have no option but beg to combine with Guam.

Juan Pan's business associates eliminates him.

Dora the Explorer I don't understand who that is. Is it Dora Bora?

If Diego or JP would be worse governance than Ben...just ask either one what change they would offer us....both are status quo supporters with low IQs.

  21. Diego, Mr. Smart Meter that never works! Diego, who voted to extend land lease to 75 years?! Truly fucked up! In fact, all those to extend land lease to 75 years were greased up their asses through briberies by rich bastards. Hey, I have one in mind? Diego, oohh you stud womanizer you! I remember when I saw you with that hot chick in Club Chicago...I was soooo jealous. A studly Lt.Gov. hustling those chicks while his hot wife waits for his stinky ass in bed. How hot, Diego! But how can I trust you when you are elected? If it took you four years to get in smart meters that don't work, a system that does not work and if you have the disgusting guts to cheat on your wife, how can I call you my Governor?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Diego is an arrogant and vindictive person who is running for governor but has absolutely no plans of what to do if elected.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Diego, you are asking the Teno family to back you, the same family who backed Ben Tan. The voters are not atupid. They will not forget your failures with Juan Nekai. You are both to blame for our problems.

One thing you all have in common is that you are womanizers who try to screw anything that moves.
Diego is better off if he goes to college and gets a degree.

If you can't run a fish market cooperative, can you run a government? I don't think so.

No to Diego. No to incumbents. No to Juan Pan. New candidates please!

    ReplyDelete
  24. A vote for Diego is a vote for stupidity. It's really that simple. JNB, Fitial, and Diego had their shot and the pissed it away. So what makes them think that they're ready now? Only stupid voters would vote for these fools, PERIOD.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Wow -- 24 posts a not single one pro-Diego. If blog commentators are a microcosm of the electorate, he doesn't stand a chance -- but are they?

    ReplyDelete
  26. you really think diego has a hot wife? lol

    ReplyDelete
  27. Diego, you are my uncle but no way will I vote you. You are a old wash out politician and I moved during your admin. We are smarter and demand new faces in politics!

    ReplyDelete
  28. The choice of candidates are poor. We voters demand some new faces besides Juan Pan.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Pack your bags and move from this corrupted island. Look at all our lousy choices for governor. Are we going to choose again between the best of the worst and the lesser of the evils? Do only assholes run for govenor?

Time for change not more of the same.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Pack your bags and move from this corrupted island. Look at all our lousy choices for governor. Are we going to choose again between the best of the worst and the lesser of the evils? Do only assholes run for govenor?

Time for change not more of the same.

    ReplyDelete
  31. New faces? Like who? Oscar Rasa? Ray Mafnas?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Diego? Is he running with Tim Villagomez?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Diego should be asked who is funding the CNMI fed case against the US.

    He has 3 options.

    1. He doesn't know, thereby admitting he is too stupid to be Governor.

    2. He does know and silently supports the case, in which case he is a liar.

    3. He will find out and tell us or break his back trying...which so far, he has not had the guts to do...and for me, I would rather have a crooked governor than a balless one.

    ReplyDelete
  34. noni above - The case is funded by multiple nmi bussinesses including duty free and cnmi funds donated by...guess who...none other than the governor himself.

    ReplyDelete
  35. did you forget to mention the taxpayers?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Fyi, I hear Govenator Fitial will select Ramon Mafnas as his running mate. Now that is a tough team to beat!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Here is one from the rumor mill, Ray Mafnas will support Diego and abandon the governor. Ray has already withdrawn money from his dead brother purse to give to Diego. He already ordered political stickers for distribution to the Teno family.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I hear Ramon Mafnas took the dead brother's money and his brother's kids didn't get any money. That's how he bought his boat and house.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Biba Diego! Go for it! You will win the primary and be our next governor!

Stop blaming Diego for our problems. He was not governor. Blame Juan Nekai.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Juan and Diego had no idea what they were really going to do. They finally realized what they had inherited after their victory. On Jan 1, 2002 when everything was dumped in their laps, they had a panic attack. For the next 4 years they bluffed and buffooned their way. We don't need the likes of these two again. Look at Diego right now and what he has done these past years. The man is a total joke.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hey noni above:
If Juan and Diego had no idea what the past gov created for them, can you imagine what the next "new administration" will be dealing with? With all the secret backroom dealings, the famous sole sourcing contacts, and lack of transparency who in their right mind would want to be governor of this place!
Sorry, the next gov and administration will be just another fluff and bluff group.
Hey what a good election slogan... "Better Fluff and Bluff"

    ReplyDelete
  42. Dora the Explorer at least has more experience than Diego.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Dora would make a good Democratic candidate. She is a non-politician and an intelligent hard worker. She could be tough too. The Dems here need to consolidate against a GOP.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hahahaha! The local dems can't even get linked up with the national democratic party. And who are the dems gonna choose for governor? Juan Pan? That is the best they can do? No thanks.

Saipan will never change until some educated new blood run for office.

    ReplyDelete
  45. The Democrats here are about as worthless as any party here in the CNMI.

Our parties are little more than social clubs. The only agenda for the parties is self-edification.

Diego won't help anyone and neither will any of the current names on the rumor wire.

Juan Babauta? Are you kidding? What's the slogan going to be: Still the Juan?

Benigno Fitial? It would be a better idea for Benny to sit this one out. He's got no chance unless he's counting on the current CNMI employees voting for him to keep their jobs.

Heinz? Um, seems to be more of a follower than a leader. Maybe we need someone without all of the family connections.

How about those Japanese soldiers who were in the caves until the 70's?

Technically, they count as indigenous so they can get the local vote without having to be loyal to any party.

If anyone knows how to survive through tough times, it's them and we're heading for cave-like times.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I would vote for any Japanese vet from Saipan over any of our current rumor mill clan...provided they are still alive.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Who is Dora the Explorer?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Dora the Explorer is our next governor.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Yapper is correct(about NMI Dems being worthless), but moving forward, a new Democrat party here would be progressive with the sweep US dems have, as opposed to running the same clan that stood around and gouged the garment factories as their only revenue stream and has such a pitiful reputation.

    ReplyDelete
  50. There may be 3 to 5 politicians in the whole NMI smart enough to know the philosophical differences in the Democratic and Republican parties.

    ReplyDelete
  51. OK above, Tina is one...for the life of me, no one else comes to mind...please help with the other 2to 4.

    ReplyDelete
  52. The only difference between the CNMI Democrats and the CNMI Republicans is the spelling.(Ripped off from Will Rogers)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Is Dora the Explorer a nickname for a known, real person? If so, what is her legal name?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hello? Dora the Explorer is a cartoon character and in the cartoon, Dora is first cousins with Diego.

That's why they put it there.

Diego, stick to fishing and lying and womanizing. It is what you do best.

    ReplyDelete
  55. BIBA FITAL 4 MORE YEARS OF SHIT!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Could someone share criminal activity or sexual adventures for any of the candidates...and we like specifics.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Juan Pan has several children outside his marriage. That is why his wife left him.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Juan Babuata is the all time political leader in NMI records for boom-booming around on our tax dollars.

The Govs antics at Kimchi Cabana are close though.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Do they serve kimchi at Kimchi Cabana?

    ReplyDelete
  60. locals are worried about who is the govna for a job and shoul worry about why two old dc lawyers are calling the shots for everything here. our congress has many stupid members

locals could boot them outta here but they are either afraid or don't know what to do

locals have been told what to do forever. first the spanish told'em what to do and what name to call god, then the japs, then the americans in the trust territory days, then willie tan and the garment industry, and lastly ben fitial's failed administration. hard to believe the ttt or local house and senate are still looking for heroes to rescue them and tell them what to do

hard to imagine siemer and willens running the show here now in post textile industry saipan

we would be better off managed by the philippines than those old arrogant hoales

    ReplyDelete
  61. Deanna Siemer is a cunt. Howard Willens is an asshole. They make a perfect couple from hell.

I wish they would get off our island.

    Fucking assholes.

    ReplyDelete
  62. 61 comments and only one of us cowardly fucks has a name. Randy Steele for Governor! (Angelo for VICE Governor).

  63. Joe Ayuyu might be a honest fair Guv?

  64. Sure, a Happy meal in every home.

    ReplyDelete
  65. You see, this is the problem here. It doesn't matter if you are local or foreign. EVERYONE doesn't know jack crap about anything on this damn island and most of all, those of you who seem to enjoy criticizing the candidates for governor are brainless pieces of amoeba floating amongst us. How can you honestly begin to say that certain people, like Juan Pan, is running for governor because he is out of money? How do you know? Do you even know him personally? Do you know any of them personally? GIVE PEOPLE A FREAKING CHANCE! We cant continue to judge others, local or not, because of the anger we have inside.
Some words of advice: GROW UP!
