It's former Lt. Gov. now Congressman Diego Benavente's turn to spin local politics as he has announced his intention to run for CNMI Governor next 2009. The most interesting of this move is that it will be a three-way competition among former Gov. Babauta, 2005 Gubernatorial Election runner-up Hofschneider.
A local primary is now expected within the local Republican Party.
I heard that Benavente if selected would have a chance for the much-coveted seat up at Capital Hill. However, Hofschneider as they say is the man to beat. They also say, the former governor will have to get back in the limelight for a chance of a close fight.
Well, what do you think?
Diego is a premature candidate with not the best chances in the GOP. But compared to Fitial, I would take Diego any day!

I've long argued for rather than mass gov't layoffs, how about realignment; transferring hundreds of workers w/ duplicate jobs into money-generating, enforcement jobs?

ReplyDeleteRandy - And that would have been a great plan had we ever planned, but that is all behind us now, and most do not realize or haven't accepted the reality of the textile revenues and its impact to 2009.
This economic problem is compounded by contract workers wanting 5 year residency cards whether or not there is work here. We can't have unemployed guest workers.
Diego doesn't have what it takes unless he has the guts to tell thousands of local CNMI workers "vote for me cause I will lay you off". If he does that, I would vote for someone of such integrity.
