A bill is reportedly introduced to rename the Northern Marianas College to "Gov. Carlos S. Camacho, Northern Marianas College to honor the former chief executive." Hmmm.....
Does this mean if we refer to the college in the future we will have to say GCSC-NMC or CSC-NMC? Way too long...
As the bill honors the former governor of the CNMI that led to the establishment of the community college, why can't we just name a building or a wing after his glory? Why does it have to be the entire college? It's a state college not a private one right?
But, who we are to decide anyway. It's still just a bill about a name game.
Well, here's to waiting for a bill to provide more incentives such as scholarships for local students to motivate them, and to enhance their skills and intellect so they can be more productive citizens of the CNMI. Cheers!

We should name the College "KING CARLOS COMMUNITY COLLEGE".
I have a better idea. Whoever donates $100 million and starts a college endowment gets to have the college named after them. That's how it works in the real world.
the camacho's are a significant voting block in the election..
you don't have to read the lines..
or between them?
Given the operational, financial and academic state of the college, how would having his name associated with it bring him any honor?
They might as well name a building V toilet stall after him.
Oops... Dang, there went my Camacho votes this coming election.
Oh well...
that's funny....
Who was the genius that authored this bill anyway?
The beginning of the article:
Rep. Justo S. Quitugua has introduced a bill that seeks to rename the Northern Marianas College after the CNMI's first governor, Carlos S. Camacho, who helped established the institution.
Quitugua wants to rename NMC to “Gov. Carlos S. Camacho, Northern Marianas College” to honor the former chief executive.
Quitugua was not present during yesterday's House's session. He, however, instructed Rep. David Apatang to introduce his bill.
Reading is a fun skill!
Is Justo for real? It is bad enough the Saipan International Airport was renamed Francisco C. Ada, now this?
Shall we also rename the Guma Husticia "Pedro A. Tenorio" building or after some other old fart politician?
Soon they'll introduce to rename the Legislature Building to Justo Quitugua House of Legislature or something.
Why the hell does the CNMI government have to name every building after someone.
Ugh. Its so irritating.
Actually Anony 11:27 is partly right- they should rename it 'The Legislature or Something'.
J. N. Babauta La Fritata Shopping Center?
The legislature is already named after the late Vice Speaker Jesus P. Mafnas. This is highly appropriate given his role in expanding the NMIRF benefits to unsustainably generous levels for politically motivated (vote-buying) purposes. Biba!
enough of this crap.. naming buildings/locations after individuals.. many, many, many individuals are responsible for NMC and where it is today. not 1 individual. what about past Presidents who have contributed so much to the college. like Saipan Blogger mentioned, maybe the idea can be considered with a 100million dollar contribution. and even with that, I don't think renaming the whole institution would be wise, maybe a school/dept. or building. The Legislatures need to move away from focusing their time on naming buildings and locations and start focusing on solving real problems, like solving the financial crisis the CNMI is currently in.
The Covenant Rally was the biggest rally. Covenant will win this election guarantee.
Pass go. Go directly to jail.
"The Covenant Rally was the biggest rally. Covenant will win this election guarantee."
it's only july. wait til there isn't any power in september
Perhaps the Legislature might want to rename Power Plant #1 the "Honorable Benigno Repeki Fitial Power Plant" (HBRFPP) to drive the point home? Biba!
Andrew Salas is now with the Covenant Party. Congratulations Andrew. You finally made the best decision of your life.
Honorable Ben's Power Plant!! That's great.
I can't keep the Salas'es sorted out. Which one is the new statistics guy at Commerce?
And how did Vince Salas quietly assume a mid level Investigator position at DPS without incurring the wrath of James Guerrero and his crew of law suit-ors who are crying (whining?) foul over questionable promotions there?
Andrew Salas is a very good guy. He joined our Covenant Party because we have what it take to address teh problems of the CNMI.
Andrew was hire at Commerce because his background and experience is in business not because of political. His chosen to join Covenant is because he knows we are the only one capable of finishing what we started to get economic recovery and bringing in more tourist to address the economy for that matter.
Governor Fitial is the first governor to balance budget and cut jobs and expenses so please join us to continued in meeting the challenges of CNMI together as one people.
BIBA COVENANT ALL THE WAY!
The budget is balanced?
I believe Anonymous 4:18am is referring to the Balance Budget that was passed be the Legislature and made it's way up to Governor Ben's desk. At that point I believe he VETO'd IT :-) The legislature than OVERRODE the VETO of the GOVERNOR and single handedly and without the aid of the Governor, passed the budget.
LOL!
COVENANT? WTF!
Yes, the Water Task Force (WTF) is indeed another prime example of Ben's extraordinary leadership.
The water situation is the best things have been in years, like power. Ben gets things done.
No, he's not perfect, and a lot more remains to be accomplished. But he really has the CNMI moving in the right direction.
During times of trouble we need an experienced hand on the tiller.
He's NOT perfect?
Anonymous 7/13 12:52pm
Water Task Force --- the next thing on the fed's chopping block. Oh my what a field day they will have there. So how are those Smart Water Meters doing? lol.
The most accurate thing you have said --- "Ben Fitial is not perfect" :-)
During these times of immense corruption what you are looking for is an experienced hand in the till to grab what he can and shovel your way.
Too late for that. Babauta's term is up.
Juan Pan got his share hiring manpower nurces for CHC under Froilan.
And Kumoi is well-known for the efficient and corruption-free CUC he ran. ;-)
If you want honest and integrity, the two best choices are Heinz and Ben. Heinz would do a great job in four years.
Right now, however, we need the political maturity to re-elect an experienced and solidly-performing incumbent, for the first time since 1985. Yes, we can!
Bentot? Honesty and integrity? Don't make me laugh. He'll make a great trustee in the federal pen.
That's what some opponents have been claiming now for close to a decade or more. The persistence of these rumors is matched only by their futility.
The purveyors of such lies are paradoxically displaying their own lack of ethics and the extraordinary integrity Uncle Ben possesses.
I don't know- his integrity isn't so extraordinary that he'd let me in on how he's spending my money on his futile law suit. Or how much of my money he's spending fighting Tina's OGA suit to reveal same.
She's revealed how she's spent every dime on said suit. Apparently Her integrity is of a higher order of extraordinary-ness than his.
But hey, why would you expect anyone who publicly proclaims Jack Abramoff his 'brother' to be of any level of integrity?
Korean 'investors' like him though. Does that get him any points?
And he dropped Timmy V. like a steaming turd. Does that get him any points?
Biba Co venant! You cannot stop us!
Ben-tan Political Academy
"Biba Co venant! You cannot stop us!"
you can't stop what's not going anywhere.
Co venant? Is that a ne w political party?
Yes, it is for those who are venal with others.
Co-dependently venal, so to speak.
Co venant.
Biba corruption!
Yeah, CNMI has a venal disease....
