Savoring the final day

As expected, there was a long line of people at the Hollywood Theaters Thursday night in what could be the last day of operation of Saipan's only movie house.

It may reopen in a month but the hundreds of people who were there last night did not want to take chances. Nothing beats the feeling of watching a movie in a giant screen, along with many other strangers. Then there's pop corn and nachos. We will surely miss that experience.

If only the same number of people last night show up everyday at the seven-theater movie house, and if only power rates are not that expensive, then we won't have a problem losing Hollywood Theatres which opened on Sept. 8, 1999.

What a sad day, indeed, for Saipan.

If the power outage initially planned for Friday happens, Hollywood Theaters could have been a luxurious refuge the whole day.

Wow, that's very sad. A lot of businesses have closed down, but this really symbolizes how bad things are getting. Things will get better!

Judging by the time of your post, Weird Elle, you must have caught the late, late show. Unless you just had to wait for your power to come back on.

i was there last night watching 10,000 b.c. amidst a nearly packed house.

i've never seen so many cars in that parking lot. i've never seen so many people in the theater. i've never seen so many people walking out through the main corridor when multiple movies ended around the same time.

it was a happening. i asked people why they turned out. they all said that it was because it was the last night.

some of them caught the 4pm with their kids and watched the 7pm show for a little adult time on the last night.

i thought that it was a little cruel for them to show the previews. when the dates flashed on the screen, i couldn't hold back from saying, "maybe" every time.

Indeed a sad day for many commonwealth students who are about to break for summer. Rather than spend on the stipends for senate members (who by the way could not agree with the House until recently on where to hold the SOCA), that money should have went to save Hollywood Theatres! Really! Let's ALL NOT ATTEND (boycott) the State of the Commonwealth Address (SOCA)!!! Show our leaders how much we care for them!!!

yeah, that's a great idea. so is inserting a tinian hot pepper into my anus.

Sounds like a plan winner.. bend over.

What bothered me tremendously was the Governor's insensitive attitude towards the closing. "They need to raise their ticket prices, in order to cover the outrageous charges for power".

Callous and thoughtless.

I'm not disagreeing at raising the price a buck or two. But that will ultimately result in fewer viewers, which won't help, and won't cover the power bill anyway.

Instead of acknowledging that CUC has a serious serious problem, and his administration simply cannot handle it.. he puts the blame on the business.

Boycott the damn thing!!!! Who looks forward to listening to more BAD TIMES?!?! certainly not me!!!!

If people are truly frustrated with this administration, you do have a right to protest. But then again, there's nothing better to do. Enjoy the State of the Commonwealth! Who knows? Maybe he will announce why his second term will finally bring "Better Times!"

And maybe a monkey will fly out of my butt...

I support pirated movies. What I will do is travel to Bali or Manila, buy the latest movie releases, reopen the Cow Town drive inn and charge 10 dollars a monkey. Yes, I will have a generator backup. You can drink beer and smoke ice if you want. Betelnut is welcome, just please spit in your can. I even offer Chinese hookers as part of my concession stand.

How about a permanent 'going out of business' sign? I see that all of the time in the states.

I think we should have a President rather than a Governor. maybe things might change dramatically different and for the better. Doesnt this politician(s) think about the next generation than themselves? how selfish!!!!!!!!!!

Establish a Second Marianas Political Status Commission.

Abrogate the Covenant now!

Hire Dekada Shyster as MPSC2 legal counsel. Or OBD&B.
