Wave the Waive G'bye?

First include China and Russia now wisa waivers for IR's, then Guam enters the scene, Visa Waiver for the Philippines?

What gives?

If you are in tuned to these stories, it seems that our leaders are indeed scrambling for mercy at the helm of the DHS to heed their requests and spare the "economic impact" on controlling the CNMI immigration. There are so many points to consider on both sides. On one side, the impact on certain industries in the CNMI on the other is the security issues within the borders.

Immediate relatives or dependents of US citizen children will lose their status come June 09, Chinese and Russian visitors won't be able to take their affordable vacation on a "US" territory, and finally the nonresident workers will be in limbo.

All these concerns are befuddling every one on the island especially those that are concerned and should be concerned with the issues.

All we can do is to "wait and see."

What else could we expect? The administrations adversarial and belligerent stance toward working with the federal government has hurt the commonwealth immeasurably. At a time we need America the most, we sued them in a costly and frivolous court action.

This administration, HANMI, the legislature, and many prominent businesses, or Chamber of Commerce members, are still clinging to a hope to continue the status quo.

We must remember, that it is this group that artificially depressed wages, and lobbied against the minimum wage, poured our money to crooked lobbyists, flooded the commonwealth with labor, and destroyed employment opportunities for a generation of local children, and enough is enough.

Everyone seems to be whining about the loss of Chinese and Russian visas, but we should stop crying and take action to help ourselves.

The Congress has no plan to do anything except plan their next election campaign, which will be both sad, and comical at the same time. Our politicians do not have platforms or reform plans because they want to hide their bias, status quo, and nepotism with silence.

They should impeach the Governor and Lt. Governor, sit with Homeland Security to address our emergency economic circumstances, and help our economy by taking a midnight stand to improve the status of CGW’s.

To repeat this for the 400th time, improving the status of CGW’s will create a free market economy and allow some guest workers to seek jobs in the US mainland, greatly relieving our unskilled labor glut.

IR’s should apply for green cards and if they have not, but If they are waiting for FREE green cards, that has never been a talking point of federalization.

I do not believe American citizen children will be deported anywhere.

ir's will likely have to leave but their children won't be forcefully deported is they're u.s. citizens.

that would be ridiculous.

it's a no brainer and this was something that everyone well in advance.

this only comes as a shock to those who listened about the impending regulations rather than read them for themselves.

ridiculous now yet before promising to them...

If I were a CGW, I would NOT involve myself in a petition signing campaign over Russian and Chinese visa waivers or to delay federalization for 180 days. US immigration protocol is not any business of foreign nationals. Asking for FREE green cards for IRs, is, in my opinion, a foolish strategy mistake. In addition, asking for a federalization stall is absolutely no business of a guest worker and is a peripheral matter compared to the goal of "improved status and an unobstructed path to US citizenship". Wendy's web page, in my opinion, gives proactive advise on this matter.

Geeeeeeeeeez,
Dont include the Philippines.
We don't need anymore Filipinos
on Guam and Saipan.

Maybe you should have 'waited to see' before marching along with Ron Chambernomics and the rest of that gang that brought you a quick ticket home.

Anonymous said...

Homeland Security will meet in early April to make a final decision on status. Wendy and Ron are going to Washington DC in March to offer input and opinions to that.

FYI Anon...the people who build most of the infrastructures here in Saipan and Guam are foreign workers. Most of them are Filipinos...Intiendes....

"What else could we expect? The administrations adversarial and belligerent stance toward working with the federal government has hurt the commonwealth immeasurably. At a time we need America the most, we sued them in a costly and frivolous court action."

--The Feds did not help the situation by leaving us in the cold. They have given us no answers. Seriously, the Governor's lawsuit was filed in September of last year. You could expect that the Federal Government would have some answers (or at least sit down to negotiate issues) as to how things would be handled and what exceptions would be allowed after legislation is passed. The law to Federalize the CNMI didn't happen in Sept. 2008.. The Feds purposely sat without taking the bull by the horns..They made the move to Federalize control of Immigration and they should have taken(early on) control to have all sit at the table and discuss what is going to happen.. Instead they have left an Air of Uncertainty that still hangs over the CNMI and have left non-resident workers in fear. How is this correct? The Feds don't give a damn about what happens in the CNMI, especially now that they have their hands full of problems. The Feds need to start treating the CNMI correctly. Sure they gave us a Non-voting Delegate seat and I put a strong emphasis on "non-voting" because at the end of the day, our Delegate although capable of introducing legislation cannot vote on the legislation. That is sad, especially when we are subjected to many United States laws and are technically part of the United States. Imagine if African Americans were contempt with things because slavery came to an end.. should we be contempt because we have a non-voting delegate. Should we be contempt because we are part of the United States, even though they treat us like a step-child.. Many of the individuals who pushed Federalization have never even stepped foot in the CNMI. They have no idea what living in the CNMI is like and make ridiculous attempts to believe they know how things should be run, when they themselves can't even do things correctly in DC and their own States...

"This administration, HANMI, the legislature, and many prominent businesses, or Chamber of Commerce members, are still clinging to a hope to continue the status quo."

If status quo is keeping people in jobs and keeping food on tables, then I think many would agree to keep the status quo. Take a drive around the Island, it aint' pretty and you can definitely attribute much business closures to the Federal Governments implementation of legislation they believe is good for the CNMI.. I guess an empty island is a good thing, no jobs, no economy, sucking the Federal bottle is a good thing.. all in the NAP line up is a good thing.. If the status quo equates to a strong vibrant economy, then I think we need to stick to the status quo. And the Feds themselves can't even solve their own problems at this point in time.. look at the crap they are standing in...

"We must remember, that it is this group that artificially depressed wages, and lobbied against the minimum wage, poured our money to crooked lobbyists, flooded the commonwealth with labor, and destroyed employment opportunities"

employment opportunities. lets take a look at other Islands in Micronesia that have had none of the above, how great are employment opportunities on those islands? Guam you might say.. well slap an injection of military expenditure on any island and you might be able to have a bit higher wages.. take the military from Guam at this time and they will fall apart at the seams..

"Everyone seems to be whining about the loss of Chinese and Russian visas, but we should stop crying and take action to help ourselves."

Once again, the Feds are using the auspices of "Homeland Security" in justifying their takeover and ban on Chinese and Russians.. The Rep who visited mentioned that they may revisit the idea of Chinese and Russians a year after U.S. Immigration implementation.. so you think it is fair to tell those businesses to stand by for a year, lay off your staff, operate on shoe string budgets, possibly close but think about reopening in a year when we might decide to let the Russians and Chinese back into the CNMI... give me a break, that is ludicrous.. it is called Federal Bullying by Bureaucrats who think they are above all on island.. don't have to even express that sentiment, you can see it in the attitudes of those who came, almost as bad as Pelosi, Miller and Stayman's attitude towards the CNMI..

Do you really believe impeaching the Gov. and Lt. Gov. will open the doors to the Federal Government? If the Feds are to stand by and be indecisive and let the people suffer because of two individuals, you have to ask yourself, do the Feds really care about the people? or are they playing a petty game of politics? again, they don't give a damn.

"To repeat this for the 400th time, improving the status of CGW’s will create a free market economy and allow some guest workers to seek jobs in the US mainland, greatly relieving our unskilled labor glut."

It is easy to say improve the status of CGW's but the reality is the Feds don't even care about the CGW's and most who were trying to convince the CGW's to back Federalization are realizing that the FEDs really don't care about their status.. If they cared, would they allow the CGW's to live in a climate of fear.. IR's don't know what the hell is going to happen to them, CGW's don't know if they will be here after 2 years.. seriously, what assurance has the Federal Government given to the CGWs that they will be somewhat protected. NONE.. and they are the ones who hold the keys to do so..

"IR’s should apply for green cards and if they have not, but If they are waiting for FREE green cards, that has never been a talking point of federalization."

It is easy to say apply for a green card. the cost of applying is astronomical and most do not have the money to do so.. Additionally, IR's of FSM can't get green cards.

"I do not believe American citizen children will be deported anywhere."

of course not.. but their parents may be deported if they do not carry a U.S. Passport or Green card.. There is no protection for even them... You have way to much confidence in the Federal Government and their abilities.

we are all feeling the backlashes of our own actions...we all have part in this confusion....

At this time there is a bill being pushed through the US Congress to give the Judges leaway in deportation cases where there are US children involved.
"The Child Citizen Protection Act" Sponsered by US rep Jose Sorrano (D New York)
This may be a temperary fix for our IR's and others until the status can be worked out.

Anonymous said...

hope so.. because it sure does not seem like Miller/Pelosi/Stayman give a rats ass as to what will happen to Non-Resident parents of U.S. Citizen children.

Anonymous said...

The CNMI should have declared independence.

Anonymous said...

noni - "declared independence" sure sure noni and then who would pay our childrens education and feed our kids with food stamps. We are dumber than PI so it stands to reason that an independent NMI would look worse than.... Malabon...jeeeze.

Can't you imagine locals begging to imigrate to the PI for unskilled labor jobs?

Boring. Please elect Greg Cruz. He will hire only Chamorus! Not the tagalus!

Wolverine!!!

Palau is smaller than the CNMI and is independent.

Fuck all you outsiders! Chamorros only! Biba taotao tano and Greg Cruz!

Is there another group in the US that would ask to join the US, beg for money while paying no taxes, have federally supported jobs that do not work, and act like the US is the bad guy?

Something I've always found confusing- how can anybody with a name like Santos, Cabrera, Castro, Villagomez, San Nicolas, Benavente, Tenorio, Guerrero (with or without the De Leon) or any other Dago or Portagee name be 'local'?

Just like all the 'moneyed and landed' Hawaiians are named Bishop, Peters, Parker, Trask and Wilcox, while the Kanaheles, Pololus, Kauhanes and Keliipaakauas are all homeless.

How can anybody named Cruz be local?

The Democrats?
