Political Porky

I had the chance to talk to political candidates lately and asked them if they were gracing Porky's Bar Friday's debate and discussions, mostly said they are not going to, "Not over a bottle of beer or any alcohol."

One posed a question that how would you get a sane, intelligent and "safe" discussion when you are inebriated? "You don't discuss politics nor religion with alcohol."

Only one way to find out, attend Porky's Bar discussion tonight then, Friday....

That's usually the ONLY way I discuss politics and religion... over a few drinks... what gives, candidates? Loosen up, and listen up!

Don't they give out beer at their campaign events? Isn't that hypocritical?

I'm guessing those who said so would prefer the lawn sign method of campaigning, which doesn't require the ability to reason or speak in complete sentences. Not everyone discussing issues in a bar at 6 pm is inebriated. What a joke.

I'd venture to say that candidates who use such excuses are simply candidates who are socially inept. I'd further bet that they are also candidates who won't or don't do well in debates. Candidates who yell out a generic message and don't expect or want any questions.

Candidates have always plied the voters with free beer. It's become almost a joke...I've heard people complaining because the village party gathering ran out of beer.

...and by the way... BIBA TINA! :)

but discussing their platform over a bottle of beer? what gives? (just rousing this discussion folks)

Alcohol at 'pocket meetings' and fundraisers and every other sort of political meeting is ubiquitous. Porky's just wants to allow those candidates willing to meet and be met a venue for doing so where two way communication can, has, does and will continue to be fostered.

Screaming Biba has it's place. Monologues and political oratory have their place. Two way communication where the voters get to meet and interact with their supporters and detractors is a much needed addition in my opinion.

No one has to drink, some candidates do , others choose not to. Same with attendees.

Common, put on your party dress or a rumpled pair of shorts and come interact with the candidates that will shape our lives for the next couple of years.

I prefer to just chew pugua during my policital discussions...that way it just sounds like I'm drunk.

It was already said but I came into the comment section with the intention of noting the hypocrisy of the campaign parties in which politicians roll up with cases of beer meant to better con their drunken attendees into voting for them.

There, now that's done.

Go Tina!

Oh, and if we are complaining about the number of times Ambrose "I've been saying this for years" Bennett gets a letter in the paper, can we do the same about the number of times a person is allowed to shout "Biba!" at one of these campaign parties?

Biba Tina!

There, I used my allotment for the night.

i remember it right that during political campaigns those candidates that share their visions and plans, platforms for some, don't hold a can of beer when talking to the public.

the campaigns that occur here is more of a social gathering for its supporters that drink and drive of course. why not bring this discussion on a neutral and more intellectually conducive set up.

the local tv should be holding programs like this, and have Porky's as the studio?

...u really are beefjerky aren't you...

Porky's would be happy to be the studio. TV stations welcome.

If there is going to be Budweiser involved in any political discussion or speech. For sake's man pour it in a wine glass. That way it looks like your making a toast? And always keep the glass half-full so it looks like you haven't been drinking the beer half-empty all the time. Biba beer!

as always, tina was hot. and she was great too. she's sooooooooooo the best candidate on the entire plate.

It was an interesting discussion all around. Casino Gambling and poker rooms were discussed at length. Several other topics got a going over. Ms Sablan aquitted herself well. I think all were satisfied.

Next Friday I am trying to get a couple of old guard incumnbants. As always any candidate can come, any Friday, any Party/....Covenant, Republican, Democrat, Independant or Budweiser.

Thanks for the wine glass idea.

Didn't see the Reveler there?!?

...a little off-the-hip limerick by noni...

'pon the stage stepped a girl named tin (teen),
a reluctant entry to the political scene,
distressed though they got,
the old guard just sat on their pot,
bolstered by a fake liberal with the sense of a bean.

:) alright... more "off-the-hip" limericks now.
