Block Blalock?

With reports from Marianas Variety, the Legislature expressed disappointments about radio commentator Harry Blalock's weekly commentary that focused on the Legislature. Blalock, who's prominent with his unabashed and no holds barred observations about the CNMI, reportedly criticized the lawmakers.

Reports also said that the lawmakers said Blalock show should be censored. A lawmaker was said to be reminded how "Chamorros were insulted by Spaniards during the colonial era."

Another lawmaker reportedly said if Blalock doesn't get what he wants, "he'll destroy you."

Should Blalock be censored at all by the Legislature? Should Blalock give in to the reactions of the lawmakers?

What do you think?

Just tired of all the negative comments!

At least half his stories are based on a false premise.

Harry is usually up front about this, if you listen carefully. “I’ve heard . . . .”

Then the rumours and false assumptions just build on themselves until you've got wildly inaccurate journalism, and Mr. Blalock begins to sound very bitter indeed. [He also had some bad experiences about the theft of his dive camera, etc.]

Harry has stated on his show that he intends to get certified next month as a dive instructor, do some one-on-one personal dive tutoring, and then move on in early 2009 to Florida or the Caribbean.

Let us hope and pray that in these last few months, he will be drawn back to what initially attracted him to the Marianas, and that he can leave the CNMI unburdened by all the stresses that have been weighing him down.

“Gatbo na islas Marianas, hu tuna hao!”

People who have lived on Saipan for years know how to work the system and let the system work them. When things don't go your way, i.e. easy Gov't jobs, contracts, etc. people will lash out. There's nothing to lose at that point. As the economy dwindles and the infrastructure starts to fail, people become frustrated and lash out. You have a few choices. If you are tied to the CNMI gov't in any way and lash out, your future work options with the Gov't are finished. If you hope to land contracts later, forget it. This is how it is, and probably how it will always be, at least for the next 20 years. This is a very small island with a few thousand people on it. Why not just sit back and enjoy the ride?

Sitting back and enjoying the ride is exactly how we found ourselves in the situation that exists now.

Stepping up and taking action, doing what is right and telling it the way it is, IS exactly what our people need to make things better. We'd be wise to take, at least part of, what Mr. Blalock has brought to our islands and embrace it.

You may not agree, he may not always be right but, censorship? That idea comes from cowards and people who've something to hide.

You can't censor a persons speech or press in America. Didn't the dum-dums (in the NMI Congress) figure that out last year. Please see US Constitution - Amendment I.

The long befuddled Congress has no authority to declare any person persona non gratis, because they are NOT members of the United Nations and even if they were, mainland Americans are CITIZENS. This waste of time is equivalent to the state of Georgia banning someone to Florida...complete foolishness.

Given the state of the commonwealth behind the direction of these overpaid thieving geniuses with no integrity, pride, or shame, I would think any reasonable person would think they have better, or more constructive things to do with their time.

That's censured, not censored.

Nevermind

i heard awhile back the tinian congress has spent their unaccountable funds.

does anyone know how much of our money the saipan lawmakers have spent to date?

Block Blalock...how?

Are these pathetic congresspersons continueing their "you mainlanders can't say these things" mentality?

Because islanders are AFRAID does not mean any American needs to be.

A very solid rumor says US officials are going to reduce aid here until the voters wake up and cut loose the dead baggage in the Congress here who are sucking free salaries from the CNMI.

this is some of harry's best stuff. can you believe the legislature spent an hour, AN HOUR, bitching about harry the other day? no wonder we're in this predicament.

if you want to shut someone up, stuff a cork in stanley's ass and cut off his brain's oxygen supply.

Why would you delete a comment in a discussion of free speech?

Is your Lt Governor really still getting paid a government salary, getting free power in a crisis, and making contract decisions while awaiting trial on 3 felonies?

You people out there should either be in jail or you must all be retarded.

The US Gov't could give a rat's ass if there was a tribal native holding a spear running the CNMI. The CNMI is simply a strategic asset to the US Gov't. It makes no difference if there is a lawsuit or not. It makes no difference if thousands of Chinese are forced into slave labor, it makes no difference. The US will continue to dump millions into the area.

Amazing. One of our leaders can blast the hell out of NMC and continue to harass our only community college; he can blast the attorney general; he can blast Ron Hodges; he can sue and blast CUC; he can blast former DPS Director Rebecca Warfield and say slanderous thngs about her; he can blast everything and anyone who disagrees with him.

And then he cries foul over what Harry Blalock says? WTF? Are you kidding me?

Here is my advice to the meatheads who actually spent a whole hour talking about Harry! Change the radio station you idiots! IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT HE SAYS, DON'T LISTEN! DID SOMEONE TIE YOU TO A TREE AND MAKE YOU LISTEN TO KZMI? THE FACT THAT YOU LOSE SLEEP AND CRY OVER WHAT HE HAS TO SAY SHOWS THAT YOU ARE SERIOUSLY WASTING OUR TIME UP AT THE HILL AND THAT YOU CAN'T HANDLE CRITICISM!

What a joke. Stanley et all, do you need a hug? Do you need some kleenex? Maybe. Or perhaps you need therapy.

What a joke. Stanley can dish it out, but he sure can't take it.

Please get these bums out of office. They are a waste of time and space. Put them in our museum, so we can look back and point and say, "See kids? That's the idiots who screwed up our island."

Did't the Governor call the idiots in the CNMI Congress anti-local?

Will they consider him persona non grata as well?

Has Harry actually won, been elavated, or is he just being considered by the baboons?
