Can't Do It. No PC in the Office...

Uh huh. This was was the line of the Nursing Board when they were asked by visiting officials and investors if the Board of Nursing has all ready reviewed the proposal forwarded by the administration for the new medical university that will soon be operating here on Saipan.

University of Loyola at the CNMI, Inc. had a presentation at the Governor's Office. Government officials led by the governor attended the presentation together with Licensing Board officials and the Nursing Board. The medical university is now waiting for the approval of its license to operate and recruit students from the mainland and some interested students from here. To the president's dismay, the Nursing Board representatives apologized that they couldn't get hold of a copy the school sent them through the Internet "because due to budget problem, we don't have computers in the office?"

For real? Oh well....

Could they use the computers if they had them?

Could they read the proposal if they had it in any format?

Have they ever heard of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library or do they need directions also?

;-) they were also given hard copies during the meeting but however, the school also sent correspondences through email to prepare the government agencies for the presentation and future meetings.

I don't know about this particular situation, but I know a number of offices where folks are using their own computers, periperals and supplies. To suggest that you can go on a regular basis to the Joeten-Kiyu Library is ludicrous. Everything is done through computers nowadays, communications, word processing, reports, grants, grant submissions, architecture, designwork, etc. etc.

The powers that be in the government look at computers as a luxury! Get rid of the chairs and desks, the calendars, the calculators, the pencils, whatever.. computers are necessary.

Sorry, I don't buy it.
If this Nursing Board is also in the same location as the Medical Professional Licensing Board, (Located on Capitol Hill) then as of July they did have computers.
I went there to renew my license and there was a gentleman sitting there playing solitaire like all good gov't employees should.

Maybe they don't have internet access?

From what I understand the University of Loyola headed by Fong is planning of establishing a high tech computer lab- I googled Fong and found he had one of the first computer schools in California back in the 70's.
